Voluntary Sector Subgroup

The Manchester Safeguarding Children’s Board (MSCB) has set up a number of sub-groups to support some of its specific functions. This includes a voluntary sector subgroup which aims to engage the sector in working collaboratively on safeguarding issues and make sure local organisations are aware of and acting upon their general safeguarding responsibilities. These are set out in the Government guidance on Every Child Matters and Working Together 2006.

The operational business of the group will be agreed through the production of an annual action plan. The core objectives of the group are to:
  • Identify the training and development needs for the sector to support the delivery of the Staying Safe outcome.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication between the sector and MSCB to enable the delivery of the safeguarding agenda through providing information, commenting on safeguarding issues and promoting the sectors’ comments and contribution.
  • Utilising the sectors participatory approaches, and relationships with local communities, to contribute children and young people’s views to MSCB
  • Help develop, review and disseminate multi-agency procedures
  • Using the Child & Family Support Forum and Voluntary Youth Manchester, disseminate relevant information to those agencies not in the sub-group
  • Advise MSCB of examples of significant and innovative practice, particularly where they relate to prevention and early intervention
The subgroup meets every two months and members are expected to raise awareness of safeguarding issues not only within their own organisation and but also with others. The subgroup is working with the Child & Family Support Forum and Voluntary Youth Manchester to engage all organisations in its work.
