Safeguarding Children Board
Each Local Authority is required to have a Safeguarding Children Board
under the Children Act 2004, the Local Safeguarding Board Regulations
2006 and the guidance in Working Together to Safeguard Children.
The objective of the Board is to co-ordinate the work of the
individuals or bodies represented in order to safeguard and promote the
welfare of children in the Manchester area and to ensure the
effectiveness of this safeguarding activity.
The Board has a clear and distinct identity. It’s not to be confused with the Manchester
Children’s Board—the Safeguarding Board has a very distinct role. It is independent of the
Manchester Children’s Board and all other strategic partnerships
although it is developing strong working relationships with these
bodies.
The Board also has a number of subgroups:
- Child Death Overview Panel - This group considers the circumstances of all deaths or serious injuries of people under the age of 18 generating Multi-Agency recommendations with an overall aim to reduce childhood death or serious and permanent impairment to health and development
- Policy, Procedures and Practice - Develops and oversees the development of Multi Agency safeguarding policies and working practices to ensure professionals and organisations adopt a multi agency approach to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Workforce Development - This group’s priorities are to scope the requirement for single and multi agency training on safeguarding issues and to organise and facilitate that training across the partner agencies.
- Performance Management - Through the development of a Multi agency performance management framework and 6 district safeguarding fora this group ensures there is consistent, rigorous and open approach to effective monitoring and performance management.
