Accessibility

Purpose
MACC has produced this standard to ensure best practice in providing any information that is available for sharing, and to set out what you can do if you think standards are not being met. Your rights are protected by the Disability Discrimination Act 2005. Unless it can be shown to be technically or practically impossible, we will aim to make our content accessible.

Accessibility Statement
MACC is committed to providing a high quality service which is relevant and accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability.  We are actively working to increase the accessibility and usability of our service and in doing so we adhere to, many of the available standards and guidelines.

Relevant and Accessible Information
MACC aims for its materials to be relevant and accessible. All written documents are aimed to be easy-reading.

Content
We aim to provide information and experiences that may provide value to you in specific contexts.

Language/Style
Upon request we will provide materials in accessible alternative format. This will be updated in-line with and at the same time as the original content. Unfortunately this service cannot be provided if it proves the business costs are a risk to the success of the project.

As a minimum we will provide;
  • audio documents in MP3 format or on CD,
  • video content with text summary or transcript,
  • downloadable documents in HTML or text,
  • jargon buster - when the use of jargon, acronyms has been unavoidable,
  • links to on-line translation services e.g. www.worldlingo.com or www.babelfish.org
Design
We aim to make text easy to read by applying the correct use of;
  • reading and navigation aids,
  • font size and type,
  • column width and line spacing,
  • text-colour - background contrast and white space and,
  • diagrams - without the help of a text explanation.
Data Structure
We aim to organise its data to suit a specific purpose so that it can be accessed and worked with in appropriate ways. Data structures in place include;
  • Contact Database,
  • Resource Library,
  • Website.
Monitoring and Evaluation
We employ various mechanisms to assess if we are meeting our accessibility standards. Mechanisms in place include;
  • Fog test for readability,
  • Accessibility check list and,
  • User feedback.
