MACC Information Charter
Introduction
Accurate, timely, and relevant information saves the voluntary and community sector both time and money through being more efficient, and able to respond quickly.
The benefits of information and information services include:
- Reducing costs, which is always important;
- Saving time: by avoiding duplication, preventing wasteful activity, making it easy to find, use and correct bad information;
- The voluntary and community sector, which includes a wide variety of groups of different sizes, aims and locations: sharing good practice and knowledge is very valuable when making decisions on all aspects of work from service delivery through to technical and organisational issues;
- Many organisations are unable to identify a specific value of information or information services, but there is general agreement among users that it is valuable in terms of the extent to which the information provided meets their needs.
Information is valuable to MACC and making proper and effective use of it is a key part of work in seeking to improve the delivery of public services in Manchester. All information processed by MACC is seen as a resource which must be managed well and in accordance with guidance and best practice in order to provide an efficient service to the organisations we work with.
Purpose
Our Information Charter sets out the standards that you can expect from MACC for any information that is available for sharing (internally and externally). This Charter also aims to show how MACC will obey the laws regarding the information we hold and the information services we provide. These are;
- Information will be well defined and appropriately accessible (allowing for necessary safeguards);
- Information will be high quality and fit for its purpose (e.g. accuracy, currency, consistency, completeness);
- All staff know, and exercise, their responsibilities towards information;
- Mechanisms are in place by which priorities are clearly identified and then acted upon.
We have more detailed policies around two key areas in which there are now specific legal obligations on all organisations:
- Accessibility
- Data Protection
The Charter will be reviewed and updated annually.
We welcome any feedback about your experiences of using information provided by MACC and any suggestions on how we might improve our services.
