Alternatives to School (EOTAS)

The Government has developed a new strategy around the provision of Education for children and young people Other Than At School (EOTAS). There are lots of potential reasons why some or all of a child's education might take place in a non-school setting, for example if the child has been excluded from school or is in hospital for a long period.

A lot of this "alternative provision" is delivered by voluntary and community sector organisation - purchased either by schools or the local authority. The new strategy Back on Track is intended to improve the quality of these services.
In Manchester, a number of the local voluntary sector networks have been working together to try to identify the implications of this new strategy for local providers. MACC's Child and Family Support Forum, Voluntary Youth Manchester and the Learning Skills and Employment Network held an event in April 2009 for local voluntary sector groups to get together to hear a briefing on the future of EOTAS in Manchester and the forthcoming commissioning process.
