District Commissioning

In each of the six Children's Services districts in Manchester, a panel has been set up as part of the move towards district based commissioning of services for children, young people and families.  The panels consist of 12 members, bringing together key agencies working within the districts.  There are two voluntary and community sector representatives for each of the six district panels and their role is to:

  • bring a voluntary and community sector perspective to the panels and knowledge of voluntary and community sector services in the district
  • engage with local voluntary and community sector organisations

Panels are taking part in a learning and development programme, giving members a chance to understand their role in developing district working.  Key elements of the training include developing a vision for each of the districts based on current knowledge of the challenges faced, building a profile of the district and to begin to identify priority areas for action within each district.  Looking at specific priority areas, panel members will draw on their collective knowledge and expertise to identify ways in which services may be delivered differently in order to improve outcomes for children and young people.
