Commissioning in Manchester

For a number of years, MACC has been working with colleagues in all sectors to develop and improve commissioning structures and processes in Manchester. It is our view that as the means by which money is turned into services, commissioning should be an high quality mechanism which brings together a diverse range of knowledge about local needs, engages local providers and produces services which provide both quality and value for money.

Our work in this field has recently included chairing a cross-sector group (including voluntary sector providers and public sector commissioners) to produce some guidance on how best to work with the voluntary sector. This guidance was launched at an event chaired by MACC on 6th October 2010.

The Reports page in this section of the MACC website includes a number of reports and case studies of our work in this field - including our own experiences of tendering and the support MACC has provided to other organisations.

Manchester has sought to develop a common approach to commissioning across the main public sector bodies - although long, this contains some useful descriptions of how commissioning is seen by key agencies in the city:
