Ambition for Ageing Equalities Research Co-ordinator (Accessibility and Inclusion Lead) at the LGBT Foundation

Ambition for Ageing (AFA) is a £10m programme of work which is developing a Greater Manchester (GM) approach to building age friendly communities. Over five years, the programme aims to reduce social isolation in target areas and ensure that older people’s contribution to civic, cultural and economic life is maximised and fully recognised across Greater Manchester. The programme is delivered by a cross-sector partnership led by GMCVO and involving local authority, academic and a wide range of voluntary sector partners. It is funded by the Big Lottery Fund (BIG) and involves place-based work in 25 wards in eight of the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester.

This role is based at LGBT Foundation, Manchester, which hosts the Equalities Team for the AFA Programme. The Equalities Team supports programme partners to consider and respond to the needs of the broadest possible range of residents in each of the delivery areas. It also hosts an Equalities Board (EB) of individual older people and representatives of equalities organisations.

The Accessibility and Inclusion Lead will join our two existing part-time Equalities Research Coordinators, who lead on EB Development, and Research and Learning, respectively. The post holder will ensure that EB members are properly supported according to their needs and that the EB is accessible to a diverse membership covering a wide range of potentially marginalising characteristics.

As well as supporting the development of the Equalities Board, the post holder will be expected to develop and maintain a range of inclusive and accessible communication channels between stakeholders. They will provide information, training and support to partners on equalities issues and accessibility in relation to ageing and age-friendliness.

This post is for a fixed term until 31 March 2019, with the possibility of extension.

Interviews will be held on Monday 13 November 2017.
